You did a what?? Fashion tasting? Our LA launch event at Diane von Furstenberg

I'm sorry... did you say pairing music to clothes? What are we talking about?

I attended an event by The Amplify Collective at the Diane von Furstenberg store at The Grove in April right after moving to Los Angeles. At the event, the store manager came around to introduce herself and to ask if we, the attendees at the event, had any ideas for joint events, fundraisers, etc that we would like to work on together with DVF. Of course, my brain started buzzing, and I called her just a few days after with a couple of ideas.

We offered the Tintoretto – Prosecco and pomegranate juice – at the beginning of our event. This is a drink typical of the Italian Riviera and paired perfectly to the May collection, which focused on reds and pinks and floral patterns.

Wouldn't it be cool, I wondered, to offer a music tasting to pair to one of their collections? We'd be able to go past the two senses we typically engage when shopping – our sense of touch and our sense of sight – and instead engage all five senses at the same time.

We'd bring the clothes alive by pairing the melodic and harmonic structures to the patterns and fabrics of the clothes, we'd go deep into the meaning and intent of the collection and create pairings not only with our music selections but also with our wine and food offerings, and allow the women in the store to engage with the clothes in a deeper manner, engaging all their senses while they shopped. And so we did that, creating a unique pairing experience for their May and June "Palazzo" collections.

We offered music from the classical, jazz, and samba repertoire and paired it with food and wine choices that mirrored the colors and feel of the clothing as well as the meaning behind the creation of the Palazzo collection.

The event was absolutely amazing, and I'm so grateful to DVF for hosting us on such a beautiful June evening!
